In addition to the book Digital Outcasts: Moving Technology Forward Without Leaving People Behind (Elsevier, 2013), Mr. Smith has published several scientific papers on the topic of digital accessibility. Mr. Smith’s articles have appeared in SAGE World Future Review, Universal Access in the Information Society, International Journal of E-Politics, UX Magazine, and The Practical Lawyer, among others.

Mr. Smith's writings have been cited in a number of studies related to people with disabilities, covering topics ranging from accessible water dispensing systems to graphical virtual learning environments. Mr. Smith’s scholarly works are housed in the collections of the Pentagon Library, the American Bar Association, the American Law Institute, the Ontario College of Art and Design, the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, and research libraries housed around the globe.
